Frequently Asked Questions
HOW TO PREPARE BEFORE WAXING?
- Shower and lightly exfoliate at home, do not apply lotion or oil base skin care product on the waxing area.
- Trim hairs to about a quarter of an inch (no shorter) for less tangle and discomfort. If shaved, allow at least ten days after last shaving.
- Arrive calm and be ready for some fun chatting.
HOW TO REDUCE PAIN?
First time waxing is usually more painful due to the hair are more rooted. Take painkiller or apply numbing cream 30 to 45 minutes prior to the services.
CAN I GET WAXING OR SUGARING DURING PREGNANCY?
It depends. If you have been waxing regularly until your due date, then it will be fine. If you haven’t done so, or have never had any waxing/ sugaring done before, and you are very close to your due date, then I recommend not to get any waxing/ sugaring. Due to the effect of hormone during pregnancy, your hair tends to grow faster, thicker than usual. There is also increase in blood flow and sensitivity around the bikini area. So, the risk of hair-follicles spotting/ bleeding, or even ripping off skin is quite high. If you ever think of getting waxing/ sugaring during pregnancy, I do recommend getting it done early in the first or second trimester (before 24 weeks), and regularly (every 4 weeks) so your body will get adjusted to it. Sugaring or Nufree are the other options during your pregnancy as it is all natural, hypoallergenic, suitable for all skin types, and I highly recommend it.
IS THERE AN AGE RESTRICTION FOR BRAZILIAN WAXING?
Age restriction for Brazilian Waxing (also applied for other waxing services in general) is as long as a client is over 16 years old, feel comfortable with the service, and fully understands of how the procedure goes.
From 10 to 15 years old, services are permitted in the presence of their legal guardian to sign the Customer’s Release Form on their behalf.
Nine years old or younger, no services are permitted.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET WAXING?
Removing hair at its early growth stage is much easier and less painful. For the best result, book your appointment every 4 weeks.
HOT TUBS RIGHT AFTER WAXING?
Allow at least 12 hours for the pores to close before intimacy or hot tubs.
IS THERE SOME KIND OF POST INSTRUCTIONS SUCH AS LOSE CLOTHING FOR A FEW DAYS?
You can wear normal clothes as usual as long as you keep the waxed area clean and dry for the rest of the day.
IS REDNESS NORMAL AFTER WAXING?
You may experience some redness which usually subsides within 24 hours. If it was your first time getting waxed of have coarse hair, you may experience more irritation than usual due to the follicles being more rooted. Apply finipil® antiseptic cream to reduce irritation, soothe the skin and prevent ingrown hairs
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS AFTER WAXING?
There are two risks associated with the procedure.
First is spotting. Since waxing pulling down the hair from the root so tiny skin damages are unavoidable, but it is shortly invisible after a day. Large skin damage is yes, but when it comes down to the skill and experience of the aesthetician the risk is quite low. I have been in waxing business more than 8 years and I have never seen this happened.
Second is infection since waxing leaves multiple tiny opening wounds for a short period of time, enough to get infected if the waxing area is not treated well. I always wear glove, and apply pre- and post-waxing treatment to moisturize the skin and to reduce the risk of hair in-grow and infection. And lastly no double-dipping as I never use the same stick twice, minimizing the risk of cross contamination. My client usually buy finipil® for post waxing treatment from my spa. It is a topical ointment that you can apply on the waxed area after showering. It is FDA approved as over-the-counter antibiotics to prevent infection, ingrown hair; while moisturizing and soothing the skin, so I highly recommend this.
